Legal
Terms & Conditions
Effective 19 April 2026
These Terms govern your use of Lominn — a private, end-to-end encrypted messaging app for iOS and Android, together with the backend service that routes encrypted messages between devices. By creating an account or using Lominn, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Who can use Lominn
You must be at least 16 years old to use Lominn. By creating an account you confirm that you meet this age requirement and that you can enter into a binding agreement under the laws that apply to you. You are also responsible for making sure that your use of Lominn is legal where you live.
Your account
- You are responsible for the credentials (email and password) you use to sign in, and for keeping them confidential.
- You are responsible for the device on which Lominn is installed. Because your private keys live on your device, losing access to it means losing access to your past messages — we cannot recover them for you.
- Please give us accurate information when you register, and keep it up to date.
- You may close your account at any time from the Settings screen in the app.
How Lominn works
Messages are encrypted on your device with the Signal Protocol before they leave it. Our server stores and forwards opaque encrypted payloads; it cannot read, moderate, or recover the content of your messages. The information we do handle, and how long we keep it, is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
Acceptable use
When you use Lominn, you agree not to:
- Use the service to send content that is illegal where you are, or where the recipient is — including content that sexually exploits children, incites violence, or facilitates terrorism.
- Harass, stalk, impersonate, or threaten other people.
- Send bulk unsolicited messages, spam, or malware.
- Interfere with, probe, or attack our infrastructure, or try to circumvent rate limits or access controls.
- Reverse engineer or modify the Lominn apps except to the extent local law allows it, or use automated systems to create accounts or send messages.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the service.
Because messages are end-to-end encrypted we cannot read them, and therefore cannot actively moderate message content. Responsibility for what is sent through Lominn rests with the sender.
Your content
You keep ownership of the messages and other content you send through Lominn. You grant us only the limited, worldwide, royalty-free rights we need to route encrypted envelopes between devices, to operate and improve the service, and to comply with the law. We do not claim any rights to read, publish, or use the content of your messages — we cannot read it.
The app and our software
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the Lominn apps on devices you own or control. Lominn builds on the Signal Protocol and other open-source components — those components remain subject to their own licences, and nothing in these Terms overrides them.
Export controls
Lominn contains strong cryptography. You are responsible for complying with export, import, and sanctions laws that apply to you. You may not use Lominn from a jurisdiction subject to a comprehensive embargo by the European Union or the country in which you live, or if you are on a relevant restricted- parties list.
Service availability and changes
We work to keep Lominn available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time, and we may update the apps — including to fix security issues. Keeping the app up to date is the best way to get those fixes.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using Lominn at any time by deleting your account from the app's Settings screen. We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, if keeping the account open creates a security, legal, or abuse risk, or if an account has been inactive for a long time.
When an account is closed, we delete the profile, the uploaded public-key bundle, and any queued messages addressed to it, as described in the Privacy Policy. Messages already delivered to other people live on their devices.
Disclaimer
Lominn is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. Nothing we say here is meant to exclude rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Lominn and the people who operate it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of — or inability to use — the service.
This clause does not limit liability that cannot be excluded under the law that applies to you, such as liability for intent or gross negligence, or liability to consumers under mandatory local rules.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of Lominn in breach of these Terms or of the law.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms and any dispute relating to them are governed by the laws of Slovenia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be brought before the courts of Ljubljana, Slovenia, unless mandatory law gives you the right to sue where you live. Nothing in this clause limits consumer rights that cannot be waived.
Changes to these Terms
If we change these Terms we will update the effective date at the top of this page and post the revised version here. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Lominn after that, you accept the updated Terms.
